New Blog

I am going to start a new blog.  So just in case I forget to tell you here it is... http://www.verryordinaryfamily.blogspot.com/  I am planning on updating October on this blog first, then when I finally get to November I'll switch it to the new blog.  I have all of next week off...maybe I can actually catch up.  Thats the goal anyway :)

Moving right along...SEPTEMBER

Do you know how Jay and I met....well we met online on one of those silly LDS dating websites.  I was embarrassed to tell people at first but the reality is, once Keaton's dad moved my every other weekend was gone and even when I had my parents watch him, where was I really supposed to go to meet anyone.  So there you have it.  We started emailing in March, texting and talking on the phone the beginning of April and our first "date" was bowling.  It was a public place to meet and pretty low key.  Anyway, we bowled three games.  The first one was a little uncomfortable but soon we were warmed up and able to laugh and joke and have a good time and I kicked some booty.  So we decided to do dinner at Olive Garden, had no problems talking and kept that up as we went for a walk at Tempe Town Lake.  And that's how our little story began.   Well these are not from that time but we have been bowling several more times since.
This was a time we took Keaton.
I think Keaton took this picture for us.
K-man going for a big strike.
Keaton also took this picture.  I really like it.  He has a huge goofy grin and since you can only see half my face I think I look pretty good too, well my eyes look good anyway.

Another fun Saturday in September was our trip to the zoo.  Jay had told me how much he hated the Phoenix Zoo.  But since I had a membership and it was free, it was something to do with all the kids.  I have taken this picture of Keaton for the last three years.

He's getting to be such a big boy.  (As a forgotten side note, at his 4 year well check he was 95 percentile in weight and 92nd percentile in height)

Here are our babies with the mama wallaby
Jay wresting the elephant and the children at the same time.  What a stud.

 Me and my little man.

So unfortunately we both have cars that are 10+ years old and not always the most reliable.  On this special occasion we  rented a truck to move some stuff and to go down to Tucson to visit family...our sonic kids meals had this fun little disguise.  We have such a good time together!

Last but not least.....WE GOT ENGAGED!  Back to the top of this post, since our first date was at the bowling alley, Jay proposed to me there.  He said we were meeting friends apparently they were running late so we went ahead and started without them.   Turns out they weren't ever coming of course and he proposed to me at the end of our game.   I was a little shocked and since I am totally not a public person felt kind of embarrassed and speechless, even though no one else around us was really paying attention.

And there you have it.....a little more insight into our love story and the beginning of our lives together.

Next up...August

Are we having fun with all this playing catch up yet?  Well August is a big month because I have a birthday on the 12th and Keaton's is on the 13th.  We had dinner at my parents and I requested Mexican food so my dad had someone from his spanish branch make me real flan, which was actually better than I thought it would be.  Then we had a cake for Keaton of course.

For my birthday my thoughtful boyfriend, Jay, took me to The Melting Pot...$100 later, we weren't that impressed.  The food was ok but would have been just as happy at Texas Roadhouse or Outback.  However we did decide it might be fun to go back just for desert it's 15 dollars for the chocolate fondue and they have different kinds, I think we got the turtle with chocolate, carmel and nuts.  Then to dip there were bananas, strawberries, marshmellows, cheese cake, rice krispie treats...and maybe something else I'm forgetting.  It was memorable, though I don't really recommend it.  Oh and while I'm mentioning my thoughtful man, he sent me these at work on my b-day which was also the 2nd day of school so my new coworkers were impressed :)

Keaton got a fun package from his dad for his birthday.  He loves checking the mailbox and seeing if he has any mail.  Especially since often his mail is bigger and he has to use the special key to open the big mailbox.  We also did a small family part for him on his actual birthday but with my cell phone camera and bad lighting at peter piper, they didn't really come out.
Another fun time in August was going to Golfland.  This was Keaton's first time so he needed a little help.  But he had a blast even though obviously he rarely got it in the hole in less than 6 shots.
Jay lost his ball in the water about half way through.  And it was super hot outside (August remember) so we called it good after 10 holes...but let it be known that at that point I was the winner :)  You will start to notice on this blog many self portraits of Jay and I...we either need to ask someone else to stop and take our pictures or start going on more double dates.

At the diamondbacks game...I think we lost but at this point that was 4 months ago so I don't really remember.
Did a little home improvement.  Jay installed a ceiling fan in my bedroom.
He also installed a new kitchen faucet.  It has a much longer neck so it can actually reach half way across the sink, plus a sprayer which is always handy.
I hung this up in my hallway, I really like it if I do say so myself.
And did this in the hall bath.
Things are starting to run together now....my September post just may include some August activites...but who would really know right?  I don't.  And that's all for now.

July

Spent 4th of July weekend up in Utah seeing my new neice.  Drove there with these people...crazy times let me just tell you!
Beautiful weather to play at the park or in the water in the backyard.
We also took a trip to an air force museum.  The planes were huge and the boys absolutely love it!

And it was cool enough at night to enjoy s'mores around the fire pit, although dumb daylight savings it never gets dark!

That night we let off some sparklers in the street.

And before we left we had to at least try to take some group photos.  Working with 3 kids under 3, not the easiest thing to do.

My phone was very busy and it kept bothering Melissa that I was texting all day long,  I was missing hanging out with this guy.  He must have been missing me too cuz he had to find a stand in girlfriend...but look at her face...I'm way better looking if I do say so myself.
Ok only 4 months behind now...more to come hopefully sooner than later.

Summertime

So its been a little bit... here is some recap of the summer.

I teach summer school in June but not on Fridays.  So Keaton and I went to eat breakfast/lunch  at the Flight Deck Cafe.  Fun little place out at Gateway Airport where you can see the planes take off from the windows.  He had a blast.  If it was nice outside we really should have packed our own lunch and sat in the grass..maybe October break.
Looking at all the parked planes outside.
Made the menu into an airplane.
Watching through the window. Making his plane go at the same time as the real ones.

Also in June Keaton played on a little T-ball team.  I got to be his coach and that was quite an experience with 3 and 4 year olds.  It started off kinda fun but even at 8 am it's too hot to be outside for an hour playing baseball in June and July.
His team was the Diamondbacks, but they had the old colors.
Base path?  What base path?  We were lucky if they even got to the right base!

Ok well I think that catches us up for June....July to come soon.

Mini Mustangs

Keaton finished his first year of preschool.  They had a litlte program where the kids performed some songs and chants they had learned over the year, like this one...they are fish.
He did not graduate from preschool of course, he's only 3 but did receive a one year certificate of completion.
And of course we had refreshments, the zucchini for the bread was from their preschool garden!
Love my big boy!

Easter delayed

At my parents I was spoiled with a computer that had an SD card reader in it, my computer is not so fancy, I will actually have to dig a cord out of a box to upload photos from my camera...that is my excuse for no recent posts.

Easter came and went.  It was conference Sunday we stayed home and relaxed all day.  I don't have BYU channel and didn't want to drag my 3 year old to church so I watched part of the morning session on line but got the whole afternoon session in during Keaton's nap time.

The night before we colored our eggs then Easter morning his dad came over to help him with his egg hunt.  Keaton had a fun time of course.  He did ask why the easter bunny didn't bring him more candy.  I guess the easter bunny must have really stuffed those eggs full last year.  But the kid does have mounds of candy left from Halloween still.  Well only hard stuff the chocolate has all been eaten of course.

All in all...fun times.
