So tonight we had the first real FHE with Keaton....He's almost three so it's about time I started right? I've always thought, with just the two of us what makes it any different than other times, we do everything together. Keaton helped me make the treats, we made mud cups with worms, you know, chocolate pudding, oreo crumbs and worms. He loved making it but didn't actually want to eat it at the end.
I decided to give a lesson on reverence since we have so much trouble during church. I just took it out of the nursery manual. Keaton screamed through the opening song, then insisted we do races and wouldn't sit at all so we agreed to do raced as our "activity" before the lesson, we raced like Kangaroos, elephants, hopping, walking backwards etc etc etc. Finally we sat down for the lesson. Keaton wanted to contradict everything I said. For example when we're reverent we use whisper voices, he shouted "I don't like whisper voices" He did try a few things like walking with reverent feet. But mostly he ran around "racing".
Later when Uncle Houston came home Keaton gave him the whole lesson. He told him to sit very still, to listen to the Bishop and the teacher, to smile and think about Jesus and to walk with quiet feet. He even made Houston fold his arms and walk around quietly. Then he opened up the picture Book of Mormon, which we didn't use tonight, and "read" to Houston about being reverent.
So I guess the moral of the story is, headache for me...learning for an almost 3 year old. Hopefully that gives a little hope for nursery and sunbeam teachers.
