Trip to Utah

We went to Ogden to visit Melissa and family and especially for Braden's 1st birthday. Keaton really was very good on the car ride up (and no vomit which is a good thing). We got there about 2 am on Friday morning. Just enought time to get a decent's night sleep before the fun began. Braden's party was Saturday, so tried out the little water park on Friday night...and no Keaton is not naked...unfortunately it rained all day on Saturday so the party was inside, but the barbeque went well and Braden had lots of fun with his family and new toys.

This is Keaton in the back seat of my dad's truck, which was filled to the brim with balloons...he kept saying, help I can't see, but eventually he fell asleep, don't worry I made sure he wasn't suffocating.

While we were there we also celebrated Melissa's birthday (which was in May) she got lots of stuff to help her with her new gardens. Then Sunday was father's day and Keaton was very willing to help Grandpa open his presents.

Most importantly we had fun and spent time with family.

The drive home was also successful, only needed a movie from Flagstaff to Phoenix. We miss Melissa, Ben and Braden, but it's nice to have a cool place to visit in the summer.

Ward Campout

This past weekend was the ward campout. Keaton and I went up with my parents to Sharp Creek, which is just a little east of Payson and Christopher Creek. We were at a very nice group campground area, and I think we had a pretty decent showing for the ward. My dad picked a nice spot to set up the "Castle on the Hill". We were just a little ways away from all the comotion and could look down at everything going on. The weather was beautiful, I would have stayed a week if I could. Anyone else want to move to a small town in the mountains with me?

Here is a recap of all the things Keaton did on his first real time camping.

Unloaded the car

Acted silly

Played baseball

Roasted marshmellows

Played in the tent (don't know why it's sideways)

Hungout with grandpa

Took pictures of mom and grandma in the tent.

Looked at spiders and ants

Flew a kite

Bonded with a friend.

Threw a fit

Made new friends and played games

Helped pack up

Stopped at the fish hatchery

Saw some trout

Fed the fish

Was tortured by my mom who just kept taking pictures of me.
And loved every minute of being outdoors!

FHE

So tonight we had the first real FHE with Keaton....He's almost three so it's about time I started right? I've always thought, with just the two of us what makes it any different than other times, we do everything together. Keaton helped me make the treats, we made mud cups with worms, you know, chocolate pudding, oreo crumbs and worms. He loved making it but didn't actually want to eat it at the end.

I decided to give a lesson on reverence since we have so much trouble during church. I just took it out of the nursery manual. Keaton screamed through the opening song, then insisted we do races and wouldn't sit at all so we agreed to do raced as our "activity" before the lesson, we raced like Kangaroos, elephants, hopping, walking backwards etc etc etc. Finally we sat down for the lesson. Keaton wanted to contradict everything I said. For example when we're reverent we use whisper voices, he shouted "I don't like whisper voices" He did try a few things like walking with reverent feet. But mostly he ran around "racing".

Later when Uncle Houston came home Keaton gave him the whole lesson. He told him to sit very still, to listen to the Bishop and the teacher, to smile and think about Jesus and to walk with quiet feet. He even made Houston fold his arms and walk around quietly. Then he opened up the picture Book of Mormon, which we didn't use tonight, and "read" to Houston about being reverent.

So I guess the moral of the story is, headache for me...learning for an almost 3 year old. Hopefully that gives a little hope for nursery and sunbeam teachers.

Is this fun?

Here are my recent sofball injuries....the leg one is from sliding into 3rd base. I was safe and able to make it home the next play. The first pic is from a day or two after, the second has been 2 weeks now, so a lot of the scab has fallen off. That happened on a Wednesday.

Then that Friday I was playing catcher and a guy slid in to home. I was sure my toenail had come off, but it looked ok for a while after 3 or 4 days it was getting worse, but I did't want to ruin my pedicure. Finally I had to take the polish off and drain my toe. It's really purple still but feels much better. The first pic was from right after I drained the blood, the second is current, although you can still see the blood under the front of the nail.

The poor lady who had to work around a yucky big toe and nasty leg. She was very nice...I tipped her well.

Happy Father's Day

Ok well it's a few weeks away, but we will be out of town at Melissa's for Braden's 1st birthday and Josh will be in NY so Keaton and I were preparing cards to be mailed out to his Daddy, Grandpa's etc. When he cooperates, I could take pictures of him all day...he's so cute!
Keaton is holding his pencil correctly and attempting to write his name. I helped with the K, he knows it has three lines but can't seem to connect them. The other letters he can write himself but he puts them in random places on the page or writes his whole name backward so I also help with the left to right thing but other than that I think he does well for an almost 3 year old.
